Asparagus come in different varieties and sizes and als this year we have a wide range available for you. Whether you go for thick gradad asparagus, asparagus tips or peeled asparagus, there’s one for every taste and every application and in every desired quality.
Brabantse wal asparagus
Along the border of West Brabant with Zeeland and Flanders there’s a striking landscape: The Brabantse Wal. The wide variety of soil and use of land is typical for the Brabantse Wal.
The Brabantse Wal asparagus is distinguished by the slightly salty taste. This unique flavor is formed by the underground water coming from the Kalmthoutse Heide and looking for a way through the Brabantse Wal and the salty sea air coming from the coast. In 2016 the Brabantse Wal asparagus is recognized as an European Regional products and is now on the same list as the Gouda cheese, Parma ham and the Opperdoezer potatoes; good company!
Queenies and Superior Queens
It requires a lot of knowledge, feeling and passion. Yet we choose, together with our growers, for quality over quantity. Making sustainable choices is important, the beste taste is the ultimate goal. Young is almost always better. This also applies to the asparagus. Our Superior Queens are therefore from fields that are young and energetic. The Superior Queen is an asparagus which is fully grown in a sustainable and traditional way and which respects nature in the highest degree. Plants have all the time to grow in their natural pace. And this ofcourse promotes the quality.
The tips of the Superior Queens are called ‘Queenies’. These tips are extraordinary tender, they don’t even have to be peeled and are raw edible! They owe their royal name in addition to their exquisite taste but also to the careful sorting process. Everything is sorted by hand! Only the very best are able to get this royal name.
